We had 22 members and 9 guests at the May 4th meeting. Our speakers were Rhonda Bender, participant in this year's MS 150 and Jeff Burden, a support person in this year's race.
Jeff Burden and Rhonda Bender told us about the MS 150 experience. Jeff filled us in on the logistics. Over 100,000 cyclists take part in this event. Seventy-nine percent of the money raised goes to research and service of clients who have MS. Only 21% goes to support services and 60% stays in chapters for local use. He shared his experience with this year's ride as a support person.

Rhonda got involved in the ride because her husband Steve, who also was present, was diagnosed with MS. Riding was her way of coping with the disease and channeling her energy into doing something on a grander scale for the people with MS. she told how challenging and even daunting the ride was with the non-stop wind and never-ending hills between LaGrange and Austin. She was most affected by the cheering of the spectators on every leg of the ride, but especially at the finish line. She was proud of her accomplishment and urged our members to participate in this worthwhile event. Alan Brevard actually has ridden in this race in 1994. Who knew?

Participants are limited to 13,000 and the list fills up in a day. Rhonda was proud to have raised $2,200 for MS. Riders must raise at least $400 in order to participate, so Rhonda did much better than that. We urged her, Jeff, and Steve to come back and visit again and to consider joining our club. With people like these three, we could accomplish anything!
