August Board Meeting
Posted by Vicki Rowe
The board meeting was well attended and lively. We got a lot accomplished in the time we spent together.
Justin read the minutes from the last meeting and they were approved.
We spent a lot of time on the treasurer's report. We discussed ways of making dues payments easier and more timely. Vickie would like anyone who owes money to give her a check at the next meeting or send a check to P. O. Box 2947, Cypress, TX 77429. The board also authorized Tom Benson to call some of the members who have outstanding amounts and remind them. Vickie will also be more prominent at the reception table in the future, so that members will be reminded of what they owe.
Vickie also shared that she will be paying the invoice from BluMax Advertising for our banners and that Carl's was paid in June.
We made several adjustments to the budget including adding more money for the Interact scholarships, adjusting the amount of our donation to CAM to reflect the grant we have received, adding a donation to the District Governor for his favorite charity, and allocating more funds for Youth Exchange. Heights Rotary will be subsidizing one of our exchange students in the amount of $1,300. Vicki Rowe made a motion that we give a gift of $250 to the worker at Carl's who sets up our room and cleans up every week. Ted Lewis seconded and the motion was approved. The gift will be given at Christmas time in the form of either a gift certificate or cash. At the suggestion of Vickie Botkin, we will also purchase a gift of crystal (bowl or vase) for Robin Charlesworth, our District Governor's wife. Vicki Rowe will purchase and wrap that for next Tuesday's meeting.
Other committees reported and discussed their projects. We have the CyFair Business Expo coming up, and Dr. Sammy Tao will be soliciting your help with that. The dates are Sept. 3 (set-up) and 4 (actual event). We will man a booth and try to interest area business people in Rotary.
After a discussion of attendance issues and in light of the fact that Justin has to make semiannual payments for members' dues to both the district and international, we decided to drop nonattending members who are also not paying dues from our rolls. If they decide to become active later, we can reconsider their status.
The Board meeting was adjourned and some of us went to Woody's and extended the meeting into a fellowship! We had a great time. Board meetings are open to all members, so please feel free to join us anytime.
