Board Meeting Provides Smooth Transition
Posted by Vicki Rowe
Tom and Keith worked together to make the May board meeting a transitional one for the club officers as they and committee chairs planned for the new Rotary year.
Since the club's year begins on July 1st when Keith takes office, the May and June board meetings will be joint meetings of current and future club officers. Committee heads will be asking members to serve on subcommittees in the next few weeks. One goal is to have 100% member participation on club committees.
Gary's attendance report revealed that we have 66% attendance for April and no pending new members.
Tom, Glen, and Justin Jenkins will be working together to get the finances in order for incoming treasurer Vickie Botkin.
Jim Hutchison was not present to report on membership, but Keith told us that the official number he sent to RI was 28. His goal is to increase net membership to 30 in his tenure. This is more ambitious than it seems given the turnover that all clubs deal with. To net two members, we will probably have to bring in 10 new members. We can also work on member retention.
The board worked together on the Club Administration goals. Vicki Rowe is the chair of this committee and it oversees the basic operations of the club. The board contributed to setting dates for club assemblies, social gatherings, and other events. Vicki will continue to work with Keith to get this planning done to his specifications.
Mike Hoke, chair of the Services Committee, sought input on scheduling a park demolition for Small Steps in late June or early July. We finally settled on June 27th, the same day as Keith's installation. The event will being at 9 AM. He has also established a connection with CAM so that we can continue to support their efforts in the community.
One of our goals this year is to track volunteer hours on a spreadsheet. Mike is willing to provide the data if someone in the club would volunteer to enter it onto a spreadsheet. He doesn't do spreadsheets! Any volunteers?
Alan Brevard is our new International Service committee head. He has also agreed to share information from The Rotarian periodically at club meetings to heighten awareness of the magazine's content.
Tom Benson has agreed to chair the fellowship committee, so he will be planning some get-togethers soon. Stan Carr has agreed to head up the Presidential Citation committee.
The board needs everyone's help, so please consider volunteering for one of the openings. The committees are as follows: Club Administration - Vicki Rowe; Membership - D. Ray Young; Public Relations - Sammy Tao; Service Projects - Mike Hoke; and Foundation - Glen Rowe. If you think you could help in any of those areas, please contact the committee chair next week.
