Program presented by Brian Burke regarding spiritual fulfillment
President Keith Peterson called the meeting to order and recognized our guest, the speaker for the day, Brian Burke
He then called on Club Vice President, Gary Gray to come forward for a special presentation. Keith formally recognized and inducted Gary as a Paul Harris Fellow, which is a unique and respected honor within Rotary International.
Keith mentioned that the Paul Harris Fellow recognition was created in memory of Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary, as a way to show appreciation for contributions to the Foundation's charitable and educational program. Keith pointed out that a Rotarian who contributes – or in whose name is contributed – a gift of $1,000 or more to Rotary International's Annual Programs Fund may become a Paul Harris Fellow. Keith thanked Gary for all his hard work and dedication with members joining in and congratulating him for his service.
The Roaming Gnome and Good News combined for some interesting and humorous comments from members. Alan Brevard discussed his Roaming Gnome attendance at the Columbus club's recent meeting. Sammy Tao mentioned that he and Gwen and Charlie Durrenberger attended the Bear Creek Copperfield meeting with Gnome in tow. Justin Jenkins recognized his wife's birthday and the wonderful evening they had at the Cirque du Soleil performance at the Berry Center. Gwen Durrenberger mentioned the many friends you make in unexpected locations by wearing your Rotary pin. In addition, she mentioned that she and Charlie would be attending the River Oaks Club meeting. Keith Peterson thanked the members that attended the CAM food pantry event last Friday and also mentioned that Verna Hoke was having some health problems, which Mike Hoke expanded on and indicated that she was having some tests later today regarding her condition. Vicki Botkin mentioned that her daughter was soon departing for her job in Chicago. Stan Carr gave everyone an update on his son's summer job at an all girls summer camp. Tom Benson mentioned the joy of waking up every morning knowing that he was the former Club President. Ted Lewis discussed his recent visit to Kansas City and his unsuccessful attempt to find a better BBQ restaurant than Carl's. Keith Peterson pointed out his attendance at his 30th year high school reunion and Mike Reiland mentioned his upcoming knee replacement on August 5th.
Brian Burke presented a program on his Love House Ministries and his "Reconstructing Society One Marrige At A Time" effort.
