Inspiring meeting speaker, Leslie Martone

Club President Keith Peterson called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone to the session. Justin Jenkins, Club Secretary, recognized a number of vistors and guests to the meeting. Those individuals were: Chris Grice from the Woodlands Rotary Club; Charles and Gwen Durrenburger's son, Charles and his friend Rose; Sandra Trenton; Emily Dotson; Mary Feldmeyer (David's wife); Fred Meyer, from the U of H Rotary Club; Amanda from Doctor Sammy Tao's office; Debbie Carr (Stan's wife); Sharon Parker and Karen Ditty, guests of Vicki Botkin; and Loyd Culp a guest of Keith Peterson's.

A number of members shared "Good News" along with the Visiting Gnome program update. Keith mentioned that he had visited the Alvin, Tomball, and Bellaire SW Houston Clubs, with Justin Lindstrom attending the Surgerland Club,and Justin Jenkins visiting the Oyster Creek Club. Charlie Durrenberger mentioned that he would be attending the LaPorte Club this week.

Leslie Martone with the Cy-Fair Credit Union spoke about the devastaing affects that multiple sclerosis (MS) has on individuals. As someone with the disease she pointed out that multiple sclerosis is a disease that may affect any area of the brain and spinal cord. Multiple sclerosis does not affect nerve cells. Multiple sclerosis affects transmission of electrical signals to nerve cells. Multiple sclerosis is the most common cause of chronic neurological disability in young adults. Multiple sclerosis is not contagious.

She mentioned the mental and physical difficulties that people have with the disease, but pointed out the great progress being made in better and more effective treatment in dealing with this life threatning disease.

She provided a truly inspring program regarding her personal battle with MS.
